In our line of work with recruitment, partnerships, and people, it’s not just about the hires we make. It’s about the stories behind them. And over the years at About Staffing, we’ve collected many.
We’ve worked with employers who didn’t just want to fill seats (bums in seats we used to say). They wanted to build something better. Every Chapter Has Its End and Its Lessons
But not every chapter lasts forever.
We’ve lost clients, too.
Some relationships ended because they needed to. Our values diverged. The work stopped feeling right; it was too heavy to carry. In those moments, walking away was a choice sometimes hard, but always honest. I remember saying to one big, important client, “I am sorry, you are right, we cannot fill jobs for you, we cannot manage the expectations.” Sadly, we parted ways and felt the impact.
Other times, we grew apart. Budgets changed. Priorities shifted. Or someone new came in with a different vision. And in a few cases, we look back and realize we could’ve done better. We own that, and we’ve learned from it.
Still, we talk about those past clients with respect and often with fondness. I still tell stories around the office about this one or that one how we won them, how we lost them, and the emotion around those clients. Because they’re part of our story. They taught us about what matters in business relationships. They shaped how we show up for the clients we have now and the ones we’ll serve next.
