Mid-January is a strange time in the staffing world.

The holidays are behind us, budgets are approved, and yes, we are busy recruiting and filling temporary accounting roles at all levels. That part of what we do at About Staffing has not changed, especially here in Calgary, Alberta.

But this year feels different.

Behind the scenes, what we are actually working on is a mix of roles that is anything but predictable. Some are under the radar. Some are difficult. Some are rare. Others are refreshingly straightforward. All of them reflect just how unusual the current staffing market is in Calgary and across Alberta.

Right now, the types of openings we are filling are incredibly diverse. In fact, if you know someone looking, there is a good chance we have something that fits. Our current requirements span everything from lease administrators to physicians, chiropractors, fractional CEOs, HR professionals and of course, accounting professionals.
Yes, we truly seem to have one of everything at the moment.

And then there are the roles that do not fit neatly into any box. Temporary, unusual, sometimes weird, often fun assignments that still need to be filled quickly and correctly.

It is a strange market, but not an unfamiliar challenge. About Staffing has weathered pretty much every hurdle through our 30 years in business serving Calgary, Alberta.

We take the time to understand each requirement, even when it is complex or uncommon. Especially in today’s volatile environment, that means tapping into our networks, asking the right questions, and staying persistent. Whether a role is hard to fill, highly specialized, or quietly urgent, our focus is the same: get it done, and get it done right. Our focus statement is all about results in 2026.

Mid-January Check-In: What We’re Seeing Across the Market

Many of the roles we are working on align with broader hiring trends we are seeing locally in Calgary and across Alberta. In addition to fractional CEO and HR roles, current staffing demand includes:

Administrative & Office Support
Administrative assistants, executive assistants, and office support roles remain in strong demand, with employers raising expectations around skills and adaptability.

Sales & Customer Service
We are currently working on a Territory Manager role for a client, and we often see demand for both consumer-facing and B2B sales and customer service environments.

Skilled Labour & Support Roles
Hands-on operational and skilled labour roles continue to circulate, particularly in construction and related industries throughout Alberta.

Healthcare & Care Roles
Physicians, nursing, and allied healthcare support roles remain essential, with long-term demand continuing to grow across the province.
