Sharlene Massie - CEO and Visionary
Sharlene Massie, CEO and Visionary at About Staffing, founded the company in 1996. Having started at the bottom in the recruiting and staffing industry in the late 80’s (with the hairstyle to match the decade), she’s been around the block and seen it all. Then out of either desperation, or sheer guts, she started About Staffing. Since then, Sharlene and About Staffing have been honoured to win some amazing awards and recognition. Sharlene has inspired many job seekers, employers, and entrepreneurs to do what their heart wants, with a little injection of logic and common sense.
Sharlene is best known for her down to earth approach, her laugh, and her ability to relate to just about everyone. She certainly did not intend on a lifelong commitment to the staffing industry when she graduated from MRU in Public Relations in 1990, but the employment industry is where her heart took her! So, she spends day after day helping candidates, clients, and her internal team find the same success. She is very busy as CEO of About Staffing, directing the vision of the company in Calgary and Edmonton.
In addition to her busy work life, Sharlene is also the mother of 3, grandmother of 2, and friend to many. Sharlene volunteers her time to a variety of charities, and has sat on numerous boards, currently as a Director of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Southern Alberta. Sharlene also appears regularly on CTV's Morning Show, offering her opinions and tips/advice for both employers and job seekers.
Lee Anne Thorne – Quality Service Manager
Lee Anne came to About Staffing in 2002 with an enthusiasm that could not be ignored. She has worked in all facets of the company and is now in her ultimate role as Quality Service Manager. Lee Anne ensures quality customer satisfaction with candidates, clients and internal staff at all times. As a member of the management team, she works closely with all staff to assist with the execution of company strategy from a focus on how to positively impact the bottom line. Her professionalism and support to the About Staffing team is invaluable.
Jessica Penney – Corporate Staffing Specialist
On Maternity Leave, expected to return to About Staffing Nov/17.
Jessica, a proud Saskatchewan native, has been a valued member of the About Staffing Team since September 2011. She loves a challenge and excels at filling Corporate Direct Hire placements within all industries. Her passion is working to find exceptional candidates for any type of role within a corporate office environment. With over 150 Direct Hire placements within 300 companies Jessica has an unquestionable success rate. Her uncanny ability to find that right “fit” by matching a candidate with the culture of an organization has proven her to be an indispensable member of the About Staffing team.
Lynne was part of the start up of About Staffing in 1996 with CEO Sharlene Massie, and was thrilled to return to the company in 2015 as the Executive Account Manager. Lynne and Sharlene enjoy discussing the changes in the industry over the past 20 years, along with sharing a lot of laughs about the generation gaps and silly fashion trends.
Lynne brings a wealth of knowledge to the team at About Staffing. As an accomplished executive recruiter and search consultant, she has managed the delivery of the end-to-end recruitment process from research, candidate development, and candidate interviews to client management. She has years of experience gained from working as a senior search associate with a Calgary boutique executive service firm, and is happy to share this knowledge with the team at About Staffing.
As a polished recruiter and true head hunter, Lynne adds a depth of experience to the process for senior and executive level placements at About Staffing.
Lynne has a B.A in Communications & Psychology from Concordia University in Montreal, and holds current certifications as a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) and Certified Research Associate (CRA) from the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC).
Catherine Van Helden
Catherine, our Marketing/Administrative Assistant, is a summer intern that comes to us with an eagerness to learn and grow in her role. She is going into her third year of her business degree at Dalhousie University with a focus on marketing, and the hopes to pursue a minor in computer science. Catherine has had administrative experience working in her family business managing a detailed workload in a multi tasking environment. We are thrilled to have her join our team to assist staff, and enhance our marketing department.
Paula is taking on the role of recruitment support specialist for the her summer internship with About Staffing. She is working on completing her Bachelors Degree at Mount Royal University with a major in human resources with her final semester approaching this fall. She discovered her talent for recruiting and staffing during her employment within the airline industry and is putting those multi tasking skills to good use. Her extensive customer service experience has prepared her for the high quality of service provided by the About Staffing team. We are excited to have her join our team and look forward to her professional growth within the staffing industry.
Tara is an energetic innovation and growth catalyst. She is an entrepreneur and lean project developer. She brings expertise on creating and implementing strategies in a variety of businesses and industries to About Staffing. Her passion is collaborating with businesses and developing solutions that improve efficiencies making small and medium sized businesses thrive. Tara is an enthusiastic addition to the About Staffing team, as her contagious laugh and vibrant personality along with her professional fashion sense makes her a long term fit.
